Crafts
The craft that turns each edition of cARTEm into a collector's item.
In our Book Atelier, master bookbinders give shape to facsimiles and luxury books by means of artisanal processes that unite tradition, precision and excellence
Books made by expert hands
Before reaching a library, each edition goes through a thorough process: selection of materials, preparation of the body of the book, sewing, spine treatment, binding, finishing, gilding and final revision.. Each decision responds to the nature of the work and the respect demanded by its legacy.
Artisanal processes
Page folding
We fold each page with precision to ensure the correct alignment, opening and continuity of the work. An essential process that prepares the body of the book and guarantees the harmony of each sheet.
Hand sewn
Made on a traditional loom with hemp thread, it provides structure, strength and a neat opening.
Spine rounding
The curvature of the spine makes it easier for the pages to sit perfectly when the book is closed, protecting them from wear and tear and deformation. Provides a more robust and resistant surface.
Elaboration of tapas
We select goatskin leather and precisely trim it using the chifla, refining the most delicate areas to achieve a supple, soft and elegant cover.
We work the ribs of the spine with handcrafted precision to give structure, relief and character to the binding. A classic detail that reinforces the volume of the cover.
Embossing of covers
Embossing on the covers with pressure, creating reliefs that add depth, character and elegance to the cover.
Page scartivana
This technique allows the work to unfold naturally, protecting the spine and preserving the integrity of each page.
Golden fabrics
We gild the shingles, applying heat and pressure to fix the golden film on the spine. A noble and luminous detail that identifies the work and enhances the elegance of each binding.
Final pressing of the book
We press each volume after binding in order to settle its structure, fix the materials and ensure a firm and uniform finish. During drying, the book acquires stability, balance and the final presence of a true handcrafted piece.
